The intermediate team began their championship campaign last Saturday with a first round tie against Calry/St. Josephs. In a close and hard fought contest we eventually lost out on a scoreline of 1-7 to 1-4. The game began as a cagey affair with both defences on top. Gradually Calry/St. Josephs pulled ahead with a goal some well taken scores. Cloonacool responded well with a good goal from Stephen Gallagher and points from Ronan Leonard and Packie McIntyre to leave the teams going in level at half time on a scoreline of 1-3 a piece. The second half was another close affair with scores at a premium. Despite some gritty defending by Cloonacool, Calry/St. Josephs were able to tack on the occasional score and it was enough for them to win the day. The lads can take heart from putting in such a good battling display, and hopefully can carry on these qualities for the remainder of the season. We now return to the league where we have two vital games coming up in the next two weeks. Next up we entertain Coolera/Stranhill on Saturday at 7.30 in Cloonacool Community Park in the penultimate round of the league. We would like to see as many supporters as possible out to cheer the lads on. The Cloonacool Community Park members draw for June takes place next weekend in Brennans. The under 8 and 10 team played out two sporting contests with Castleconnor on Wednesday last. Training for these age groups continues on Saturday mornings at 11am.
