Club PRO Notes
There is no question where the Pride of the Moy award goes this week. It’s to St Michael’s NS, Cloonacool following their great victory over Geevagh NS by 0 – 9 to 0 – 5 in the Cumann na mBunscol 4/5 Teacher Final in Markievicz Park on Saturday last. Earlier in the week they defeated Achonry NS in the semi final to qualify for the Final for the first time in 14 years. Saturday’s victory bridged a 20 year gap to the School’s last success in the competition. Following the game the John Kent Shield was presented by Louise Lavin, Ironically a Geevagh Woman and the Chairperson of Sligo Ladies Board to the Team. After that it was onto a victory tour of the area commencing in McDonalds and ending up in the Community Park with a cavalcade, revisiting the times of the late 1990’s when this time up to six hundred cars and a van joined in the victory celebrations. For the Record the team that took home the bacon (Title) were Siobhan Brennan, Niamh Brennan, Tara Carty, Aine Conway, Emer Conway, Eva Currid, Claire Gallagher, Eimear Gallagher, Shauna Gernon, Megan Grehan, Aoibheann Mc Elwee, Chloe Mc Kim, Catriona Mooney, Deirbhile Ross, Cliona Walker. The management being Ms Kelly & Ms Casey. For the record, the ones that fell by the wayside along the way included High Park, Corballa & Enniscrone in the Round Robin Series, Ballintogher in the Quarter Finals while Achonry bit the Dust in the Semi Finals. The Boys not to be outdone were unlucky to lose out in the semi final of their competition to Moylough NS, a Moylough side that went on to winthe Silverware. Cumann na mBunscol are to be complemented on the running of their Finals.
It was a busy weekend for our Senior Team with 2 games down for decision over the weekend. First up was Coolera/Strandhill on Friday evening with victory coming our way, This victory was to come at a cost as Damien Sweeney picked up an injury. The Club wishes Damien a speedy recovery. Then some 40 hours later St Molaise Gaels visited the Park. Once again like Coolera they too left empty handed as Cloonacool continued on their winning ways. The Club extends good wishes to Hughie Marren and Kevin Gallagher who have departed these shores for the Summer Months.
Training for the U – 10 & U – 8 continues on Friday at 6.30pm. In the coming weeks the Club will host a Blitz Day with St Pat’s and St Farnan’s visiting the Park, while a week earlier the Teams will visit Connolly Park, Collooney to take part in a Blitz day there.
Every Success is wished to Cloonacool Community Centre which reopens its doors to the public this coming Sunday. For years the Community Centre was a place of great help to the GAA Club.
The Club extends sympathy to the Family, Friends & Neighbours of the late Vincent McDermott, Tullycusheen, Tubbercurry and John Joe Walsh, Letterbrone, Aclare who passed to their eternal rewards during the past week. Sympathy is also extended to Mick Burke, Tubbercurry on the passing of his Brother recently.
