The fifth annual 5k road race and walk took place on Sunday last, on a lovely crisp afternoon. A big crowd of runners and walkers turned out for the event. First home was Anthony Flannery, Cloncliffe Harriers, in a time of 17.03, second was Anto Devaney from Mayo AC in a time of 17.07 and third was David Kerins, Galway City Harriers in 17.49. Mari Johnston was the first lady across the line in a time of 20.04 followed by Lorraine Hosey in second in a time of 20.19 and in third was Connie Walsh in 22.43. The secondary school winners were Thomas Delahunt in 18.44 and Aibhe Morgan in 22.15. National School entry was won by Eoin Carty in a brilliant time of 20 minutes flat and Ruth Nealon in 22.54. The prize of first local man home went to Michael Carty and first local woman home went to Evelyn Wynne. Congratulations to all the winners and well done to everyone who competed. The club would like to thank everyone who took part in the race and walk, to the wonderful ladies who done the catering and as usual made sure everyone was looked after on the day, everyone who baked and left in food for the occasion, the girls doing the registration and time keeping, the photographers, Patrice for her video, Chris for providing the sound system and music, to the marshals and the organisers, without these people it would not be possible for the event to be such a great success. Senior training takes place on Wednesday and Friday evenings. Our senior team play their first match of the warm up competitions away to Castleconor on Sunday next 23rd February. We wish them the best of luck for the year ahead. Tickets for the GAA national club draw are on sale at 10 each. All proceeds go to the club. Can all tickets be returned to the club by next Sunday, 23rd February.
